Hymn 4 – Praise My Soul The King Of Heaven

bazThe Sermon was given by Barry Robinson on the subject of Communication.  Many problems are caused by a lack of good communication and misunderstandings happen. God has closed the communication gap between a Holy God and sinful mankind. In the past God communicated through his many prophets, and now only one way, through his Son. Hebrews 1:1-2.  God does speak, he is not silent. He addresses us through his Son. Jesus is THE prophet. In Christ God spoke fully and decisively.  In the Old Testament, God used many prophets including Ezekiel.  He saw visions and the radiance of God’s glory. Ezekiel 1:1 and 28. 3:23. Hebrews 1:3. He spoke to Isaiah in Isaiah 1:18. In Jeremiah we read that God created the world by his power and Christ sustains it.  Jeremiah 10:12-13. Moses knew there would be one Prophet in the future that all must listen to. Deuteronomy 18:15. In Acts 3:18, we read that all the prophets fortold, has been fulfilled in Christ. Jesus is God’s son, we must listen to Him. Hebrews 1:2. The Son is superior in every way. There can be no salvation without Jesus. Acts 4:11-12. Jesus is the perfect revelation of God. Hebrews 1:3. Like the image on a coin.  Stamped or engraved. If you want to see God, then look to Jesus. God came himself to the world, he didn’t send someone else. Jesus is God’s cosmic sustainer and transcends the human realm. Christ’s sacrifice was once for all, at a single point in time. When Jesus had finished his work he sat down at the right hand of God. The priests of the Old Testament could not sit down as their work was not finished. We must worship Christ. Revelation 5:11-14. We must never doubt or drift away.  Thomas doubted. John 20:24-28. We must meet Jesus in the New Testament, and respond the same as Thomas did in verse 28. My Lord and my God.

The Final Hymn was Immortal Invisible, God Only Wise, after which the Closing Prayer was given by Mike Barlow.

Our Young People’s church today looked at some of the parables of Jesus. They were the parable of the Sower and the seeds that fell in various places, and the parable of the Tares sown among the Wheat. We looked at the literal meaning and then discussed what we thought Jesus was trying to teach us. We then looked at the explanation Jesus Himself gave to those parables. Some parables end with dire warnings to those who do not follow Jesus’ teachings, but 2 parables, ie., the lost sheep and the lost coin show how Jesus cares about us so much he does not want to lose anybody.
