2011-07-23 Irene gives the message
Intercessory Prayer was led by Irene Wilson:
*Yesterday Irene took part in a “walk of witness” with hundreds of Christians in Watford. She noticed a young man nearby watching with interest. She went over to him and they talked for a while. She asks that we all pray for him that he will think about what he observed. Please lead him to you, so that he can come to know the hope of the future.
*Many children today do not know why we celebrate Easter or what this special time of year is really about. It is our responsibility to tell people about Christ’s death and resurrection. Please give us the power and encouragement to do this.
*Please give comfort to all those parents and families who have lost loved ones on the ferry disaster. Also all the families still waiting for the missing Malaysian aircraft to be located. Only you know where it is. Please help them know there is hope for a future through Jesus Christ, and you have a plan for each of them.
*Prayers are requested for John Halford who has been diagnosed with cancer. Please pray for his wife Pat and their family.
*You are our creator and our healer. Please use the skills of the doctors treating David Warner. Please intervene and heal Shirley Maskel, and bring her peace.
*We pray for Eileen Howard that you would take away the terrible pain she suffers with arthritis. Help her husband Robin and their family.
*A lady came to the prayer table outside to ask for prayers to heal Jane Warden. Please answer her prayer.
*We are very pleased to hear that John Hanlon has left hospital after a problem with his leg, and is able to drive again. We thank you for his healing.
*We thank you for all you do for us through Christ, and look forward to celebrating his resurrection.

Hymn 5 – Jesus Christ, I think upon your Sacrifice.
George Henderson speaking
The Message was given by George Henderson about Easter Saturday.
Many human traditions have been added to this day, but are not biblical. The G.C.I. does not have a liturgy of connections to each day. We acknowledge the major events of the Salvation Story, and that a New Covenant was established at the Lord’s Supper. The whole of Salvation depends on the Resurrection. What do we learn from today, or this period of time? The story is in all 4 gospels, so what does scripture tell us?
Christ made 7 statements while he hung on the cross. In Mark 15:37, we read that Christ cried out in a loud voice and breathed his last. The veil in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, verse 38. The Holy of Holies was opened to all mankind. God did this.
The centurian and many women witnessed Jesus die, verses 39 -41. Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, got permission from Pilate to take down Christ’s body. He wrapped him in fine linen and laid him in a tomb hewn out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance. Two of the women observed where he had been laid, Mark 15:42-47. John 19:42 tells us that they all left before sunset at about 6pm to keep the Sabbath. Jesus had asked John to take his mother Mary to his own home and take care of her. We can read all the story again from a different witness in Matthew 27:50-66. Jesus willingly gave up his life. John 19:30. We should also read at this time Isaiah 53 as prophecies were fulfilled. Jesus is our Messiah. We have evidence of the Holy Spirit in our lives because of this, Philippians 2:5-11.

The final Hymn was At the name of Jesus, after which the Closing Prayer was given by Bill Wilson.
Youth Lesson
In the Young Peoples Church, we covered the story of Jesus from the triumphant entry into Jerusalem, Last Supper, Arrest, Trial, Crucifixion, and Resurrection. We looked at the meaning of all these things and what it means for mankind. We had time to discuss these things and some very perceptive questions were asked by the young people which were answered in the discussion. The lesson was led by Peter Beardsmore.
