Hymn 5 – Meekness And Majesty

The Message was given by Irene Wilson about History. Does history matter or is it just a pile of books gathering dust? It connects us through time, our yesterday, our past. There is a trend today to revive history without facts. It is someone’s opinion or theory. Theories can be found out when a fact is discovered. For example when the remains of Richard 111 were found in a car park in Leicester.
Much of history is kings and battles, and most of history is written by the victors according to Churchill. Which events of the past have a direct effect on us today? We read in the book of Daniel about the Ancient of Days. Daniel 7:9,13 and 22. The British Museum contains many artifacts, but what do we know about the people? There is a period in history we call the Dark Ages, because we know nothing about that time. The Bible is the greatest history book. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that all scripture is given to us by God. God has protected it through all of the ages. We are to grow in grace and knowledge.
How do people react to history? Some re-enact battles, but why not re-enact peace treaties? Mankind does not seem interested in peace. Isaiah 59:8. Armies pray that God will be on their side, but does God take sides? Romans 3:15-18. Our future relies on God’s grace. People can think up what-if stories and then carry the baggage of their sins all their life. What if our sins had not been forgiven? We all sin. Romans 3:23. We must thank God that through Christ our sins are forgiven and forgotten. Isaiah 43:25-26. We must not let ourselves be diverted away from Christ. Hebrews 12:2. The lives of those recorded in the Bible are there for our benefit. It is our toolkit to be used daily. 1 Corinthians 10:11. Will God be pleased with our own history? The Book of Life is not death. Revelation 20:12. God delights in us. 1 Peter 1:6-7. Zephaniah 3:17. We must focus on Jesus. Our future has been secured by him. We have the finest and greatest book to use each day. The Bible.

The Final Hymn was Thy Word after which the Closing Prayer was given by Peter Beardsmore.

Children’s Church took place during the main Message.

Fellowship continued over refreshments in the Church Hall.
