Hymn 3 – Be Still
Bill Wilson leading Intercessory Prayer

Intercessory Prayer was led by Bill Wilson and he began with a few thoughts:  Bill and Irene went to London to see the poppies at the Tower. Many millions have died for us to come and sit here today. Jesus taught us to love one another. If people had only listened, there would be no need for poppies.
*Father we thank you for all you have done for us and that we can live here in this beautiful world that you created for everyone.
*This is now a mixed up world with many people stressed and anxious. Jesus told us that if we looked to him, he would give us peace of mind. Thousands of people are displaced and may never return to their homes.
*The world leaders are meeting in Australia. Please guide their decisions to make these talks successful.
*Please stop the ebola virus spreading and heal those who are ill.  Thankyou for all those who are willing to go and help.
*We are very pleased to have Phillip Halford and Ann Nadim back with us today. Please continue to help Phillip as he still has some pain.
*Please help George Campbell to make a full recovery.
*We thank you for the good news for Esther and Aileen.
*We ask your blessing on the prayer table outside. Please let people know that they are welcome to come in.
*The New Hope Trust thanks us all for our generous donations. Please bless them and all who gave to them.
*Thankyou for your awesome mercy and so many blessings. Thanks also for all Jesus did for us.

Hymn 4 – How Lovely on the Mountains.
Hymn 5 – Give Thanks
Mike Barlow gives the Sermon

The Message was given by Mike Barlow.  He began with some questions–Who am I and who are you? Why are we here? We have been selected and chosen by God to be his people. 1 Peter 2:9-11. We have received his mercy and so should try to glorify God. It is part of our calling to live our lives as an example of his teachings. We know that our life is a training for a future role in his Kingdom. God has chosen the weak not the mighty. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. The world leaders are meeting together, but do they look to God first? We can only come to Jesus if the Father draws us. John 6:44-48. Jesus is the bread of life. John 6:65-69. Grace and peace will be multiplied to us and we can be partakers of the divine nature. 2 Peter 1:1-8. This is so incredible.
Ephesians 2:1-10. For by grace we have been saved. Verse 8. We should always look to Jesus as our guide and study his life. Romans 8:28-30.
Nothing can separate us from the love of God. Verses 38-39. Colossians 3:12-15. This is the nature of God. We read in Matthew 24:21-22 that because of broken laws and evil everywhere, terrible times are ahead for this world. Verse 22 says that but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. Verses 29-31 tells us that the elect will be gathered to Christ. This is difficult for us to understand, but we know that Jesus gave his life for us. We can always pray for help and guidance. This is a great privelege and we should be very thankful. Read 2 Timothy 4:6-8.

The Final Hymn was Fill Thou my Life, after which the Closing prayer was given by Phillip Halford.

childrens church
In the Young Persons Church today we started by reading the story of Jesus from the wise men visiting Mary, Joseph and Jesus, through the angel warning them to flee to Egypt up to them resettling in Galilee after the death of the evil Herod.   We then continued our journey through Genesis, from the death of Abel to the Flood. We learned that almost all humanity forgot God and chose the way of crime and violence, with the exception of Noah and his family. We looked at some of the ‘sightings’ of the Ark on or near Ararat and compared their various merits.  There are many claims and counter-claims, but no solid evidence yet.  If the Ark is still up there under the snow it is waiting for God to reveal it in His time.
The teachers were Peter and Caroline.

champagne in glassesAfter the Service a buffet lunch was provided to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Mike and Joy Barlow.  There was also a celebration iced cake and Phillip Halford proposed a toast with champagne.
