Hymn 4.  Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken
2015-01-24 Linda Halford gives a reading
Linda Halford gave a Reading from Romans 15:2-7

The Message was given by David Silcox, who began with a few minutes to meet and greet those around you.  Then he asked “What would you have said to the Samaritan woman?”!  Most people would not have gone anywhere near her, but Jesus said, “Give me a drink.”  The story can teach us how to make contact with others to bring opportunities to share the gospel.  Words that invite interaction and relationship.  Matthew 11:28 says come to me and I will give you rest.  Jesus issued an invitation to take my yoke and my burden.  He doesn’t say our burdens will disappear but that he helps us bear them and gives us rest.  We do have a responsibility to everyone we meet and come into contact with—to set a Christian example and to use our gifts to spread the good news—to offer that living water.  He finished with the prayer from the brochure:
God of life, who calls us to justice and peace,
May our security come not from arms, but from respect.
May our force be not of violence, but of love.
May our wealth be not in money, but in sharing.
May our unity be not in the quest of power,
but in the vulnerable witness to do your will.
Open and confident, may we share today and forever,
the bread of solidarity, justice and peace.
In the name of Jesus, who as a victim
of our violence gave forgiveness to us all, we pray.

The final Hymn was Onward Christian Soldiers after which the Closing Prayer was led by Sue Ann Henderson
