Hymn 4 –  Great is the Lord
Hymn 5 – Majesty
2015-01-03 Mike Barlow preaching

The Message was given by Mike Barlow on the subject of Forgiveness.
Do we ever feel that God is not pleased with us? Can we forgive people? What does Jesus say? In Matthew 6:12, Jesus says, “forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors”. Verse 14 says, “for if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”  Although we find this very hard to do, we must remember that Jesus died so that we could be forgiven. It is required of us to follow his example. In Luke 23:23, the crowds demanded that Jesus be crucified.  When Jesus hung on the cross, he said, “Father forgive them, for they do not know what they do”. Verse 34.
We wonder today how people can do such terrible things to each other. We read in Jeremiah 31:31-33, that God has put His Law in our minds and hearts. He expects us to forgive others, and release them from their debt. We must develop the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16.  If we followed Philippians 2:1-5, we would find it easier to forgive. Only God can give us the mind of Christ. We should love our neighbour as ourself. Galations 5:14. Romans 12:14. We should show mercy. Matthew 5:7. 44-47. Jesus rose from the dead, and gave us help through the Holy Spirit. Read John chapters 14-16. God can’t forgive us unless we forgive others. If we keep a right relationship with God, we will have peace of mind. Our reward will be eternal life.

The Final Hymn was Dear Lord and Father of Mankind after which the Closing Prayer was given by Phillip Halford.

Fellowship continued over refreshments in the Church Hall.
Children's Church

In Young People’s Church today we read 2 more stories from the life of Jesus.  We then talked about the partial eclipse of the day before and the young people took turns demonstrating what happened with the aid of an Earth Globe, and a Moon Globe and the light from a wall light. We read the events of Jesus’ death and learned that even the historians of that time knew that the darkness that occurred was a supernatural sign. Even they knew that an eclipse cannot occur at Passover, as it is a full moon and eclipses can only occur at a new moon. Also eclipses cannot last more than 7 or 8 minutes, and this lasted three hours.
The teachers were Caroline and Peter.
