Hymn 4 – The King of Love
Hymn 5 – Our God Reigns

Irene Wilson leads intercessory prayerThe Message was given by Irene Wilson.
We hear a lot in the media about “celebrities” and heros. The Bible is the greatest book ever written. We can read the life stories of many people in the Bible that God chose as examples for us. One such man is Barnabas whose name means “Son of Encouragement”. Names can describe a person’s character. Telling a story does not always start at the beginning.
We read in Acts 14:1:18 that the Greek people in Lystra thought that Barnabas and Paul were gods and gave them new names. Zeus and Hermes. The people wanted to sacrifice for them. Even though the Jews had seen Jesus perform miracles, they would not believe that he was the Son of God. Paul and Barnabas had to convince the crowds that they were only men not gods. Some time before this, they had asked God to grant them boldness to speak his word. Acts 4:29. 28:31.
Why are these stories in the Bible? They are God breathed. 2 Timothy 3:16. Do we encourage others? We are all individuals, and our lives should be dedicated to Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:10 and Galations 6:4. God does nothing in vain and we should be encouraged and inspired by people and others like Barnabas.

The Final Hymn was Will you come and Follow me, after which the Closing Prayer was led Peter Beardsmore.

Fellowship continued over refreshments in the Church Hall.
