Hymn 4 – Rejoice the Lord is King
Hymn 5 – O Worship the King

2010-03-13 Gavin preaching in WatfordThe Sermon was given by Gavin Henderson. What would we like to see in a leader? What about wisdom. We read in 1 Corinthians 1:20-24, that people look for signs, but Christ is the wisdom of God. Verse 24. In 1 Corinthians 2:6, who are the mature? Those who have come to faith and are Christians will continue, and others will come to nothing. The mystery of God is now revealed in Christ. Many people don’t understand the wisdom of God and Christ crucified. They did not understand why Christ would let himself be crucified as it could be seen as folly. It was all destined before time began and all in God’s plan. Verses 7-8.
God prepares things that we
can’t understand for those who love him. Verse 9. Love to God and love to neighbour are embodied in the commandments. Exodus 20:1-17. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Psalm 111:10.
We know
that the Holy Spirit reveals these things to us. 1 Corinthians 2:10. No one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Verse 11. Once this knowledge has been revealed to us, then we can share it with others. Without this revelation from God, human beings cannot understand and it seems like foolishness to them. Verse 14. They need help. We are united by our hope for the future and our love of God. The knowledge of Christ and the Holy Spirit is a gift from God.

The Final Hymn was Lord for the Years, after which the Closing Prayer was given by Bill Wilson.

Fellowship continued over refreshments in the Church Hall.
