Hymn 4 – When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
Hymn 5 – I the Lord of Sea and SkyMr. Bergin preaching

The Sermon was given by Mr. Francis Bergin on the subject of Prayer
Do we have a strategy when planning what we want to achieve in our lives? Christ had a strategy for the birth of the church. He planned to send the disciples the Holy Spirit to help them take the gospel message to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8. When Christ was taken up into the cloud, the disciples returned to Jerusalem. Without Jesus they wondered what they should do while they wait. Verses 9-13. Verse 14 tells us that they prayed together. They succeeded in that stategy and turned the world around.
What is our strategy? How are we getting on with God? How is our prayer life? Communication with God is the deepest and highest work of the Holy Spirit. 1 Thessalonians 5:17, tells us to pray without ceasing. Jesus himself set us an example as he often went somewhere alone to pray. Luke 5:16. The Bible does not tell us how long or where to pray but we should pray daily.
The requirements for prayer are, faith. Hebrews 11:6. Wholeheartedness. Jeremiah 29:13. Humility. 2 Chronicles 7:14. Righteousness. James 5:16. Obedience. 1 John 3:22-23.
It is easy to talk to people we know well, but what about God?. Can we relax with God? Prayer is just a conversation with God. Prayers are individual, there is no set length of time. Prayer produces peace of mind.
We can be disappointed when our prayers are not answered as we would wish. We will need patience. James 1:3. We must also follow the example of Jesus in Matthew 26:39. Your will not mine. We have the hope of the resurrection. We should use the same strategy as the disciples, and pray without ceasing.

The Final Hymn was My Shepherd will supply my Need, after which the Closing Prayer was given by Irene Wilson.

Fellowship continued over refreshments in the Church Hall.
