2015-03-14 Irene Wilson leads Intercessory Prayer-trimmedThe Message was given by Irene Wilson on the subject of Good Works
We have bountiful goodness this time of year. We should share our blessings, but will this giving attitude count towards our salvation? We read in Ephesians 2:8-10 that good works are not a pre-requisite. God prepared them for us beforehand. Verse 10. Abraham’s faith was accounted to him for righteousness. Genesis 15:6. Righteousness or good works, what is the difference? God sets the standard of  righteousness. There is nothing we can do to earn eternal life. We are forgiven by God’s grace. When we are sorry for our sin and repent, God forgives us because of Jesus. 1 Corinthians 6:11. Where does that leave us about good works? We are children of God so should look like our Father. We are adopted, and should imitate our Father. 1 John 2:6. Ephesians 5:1-2. How can we be like God? By developing the fruits of the Spirit against which there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23. These are features of God’s divine nature. Good works are the by-product of the Holy Spirit working within us. James 2:22-26. These fruits should be our spiritual harvest. This is our goal. Ephesians 4:13.

The Final hymn was Fill your Hearts with Joy and Gladness after which the Closing Prayer was given by Sueann Henderson.

The Young People’s Church today was held during the Sermon time and was led by Peter and Jo. The children listened to and discussed 2 events from the life of Jesus. They then studied the amazing colours in autumn leaves and coloured in pictures of autumn leaves with messages in them, like be kind, share, help, etc. These were then laminated and made into place mats.
