Hymn 5.  In Christ Alone

2015-10-31 David Silcox preachingThe Message was given by David Silcox, who asked WAre you mature?  What is a mature Christian?  Perhaps how many years you have been in the church or how many times you have read the Bible?  Looking into the bible, Colossians addresses Christian maturity. Chapter 1:14-22 addresses the role of Jesus Christ in bringing us to maturity, speaking of the pre-immanence of Jesus in our christian lives to reconcile us from wickedness to present us holy and perfect in Jesus Christ, who works in us mightily, vs. 29 In chapters 2 & 3 he goes on to show we put to death the old man and put on the new man to live a new life in Christian maturity. 1-How we see one another and our care & concern for each other 2-How we put to death the old as we are buried with Christ in baptism and become dead to sin with our life hidden in Christ till 3-We are raised with Christ to new life.  A new age has dawned where we seek those things which are above.  We come up from the waters of baptism to new life, born again to Christ, who is our life. 4 Col 3:17 whatever you do now, do it in the name of Jesus because he lives in you.WWJD

The final Hymn was Standing on the Promises after which the Closing Prayer was led by James Esom

Fellowship continued over refreshments in the church hall.
2015-10-31 Young People's Church

At the Young People’s Church on the 31st of October we discussed DD and LL. Halloween focuses on Darkness and Death (DD) but Hallow’s Eve focuses on Light and Life (LL). The young people read some scriptures about darkness and experienced darkness when blindfolded to play ‘pin the tail on the donkey’. The young people also read several scriptures about light including: ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’ (John 8:12) and ‘For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light’ (Ephesians 5:8). They also learnt some interesting facts about light and lightning, saw a demonstration showing how light can bend (through water) and saw some pictures of glow worms, fire flies and deep underwater creatures which all create their own light. At the end of the lesson they made some toy candles and played with some glow sticks and balloons with little lights inside each one.
