Hymn 6 – I Believe
2015-12-05 Alice McDermott speaking

The Message was given by our guest speaker, Dr. Alice McDermott from St. James Baptism Church.  Her talk was entitled ‘From Pilot To Pastor’ and she told her story, a story of a Prodigal Daughter.  God gave her talents and gifts and let her stray from him as she studies engineering and maths, trained in the RAF to become a bomber pilot and served in Aphghanistan and other countries in conflict. She told of people who never ceased to pray for her safety and return to God.  In her journey during fear in one of the bombing raids, she ‘bargained’ with God that if he would bring her safely home she would return to the fold, but as often happens, this was forgotten when back safely at home.  A scare with a lump in her breast brought her back and she began to study and learn scripture.  A job offer from BA fell through and she went back to flying in the RAF but with Zephaniah 3:17 always in her mind:  “The Lord your God is with you,  the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”  God called her to be obedient and available and she left the RAF to study and follow her journey from pilot to Pastor. Alice asked us all to pray hard for the prodigals to return and never to give up.  She ended with a prayer for the prodigals and the strangers to come to their Heavenly Father.

The final Hymn was Now Thanks We All Our God after which the Closing Prayer was led by Sue Ann Henderson
