This was Day 7 in the Week of Prayer For Christian Unity, with a Theme of The Road To Unity.  We were delighted to welcome around 20 people from different Churches around Watford and Garston, and most of them stayed for the Brunch following the Service.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an inter-national, inter-Denominational Christian event, that is embraced by Churches Across Watford, and the North Watford and Garston Churches Together of which our Church is a part.  The Theme of the week this year is ‘Salt Of The Earth.’ The Week begins with a Pulpit Swap, which occurred last weekend.  Our guest speaker was Roy Young of the Garston Community Church, and representing us, David Silcox spoke to the Beechen Grove Baptist Church.  Each day of the past week a different Denomination has hosted a Service.  The Last Service of the Week is Day 8, hosted by the Soul Survivor tomorrow afternoon at 4:30.

Irene Wilson brings Intercessory PrayerIntercessory Prayer was offered by Irene Wilson who began by commenting on the Christian journey with Jesus, and that the body needs salt—we need each other:
*Thank you for being with us, Father, thank you that you hear us, that you have made us worthy by your blood.
*We have suffered loss this week and we thank you for the life and example of Jack.  We pray that you will comfort his family—surround them with your love and certain hope.  We pray for all who are bereaved at this time, and thank you for the glorious hope of the resurrection and Eternal Life.
*We pray now for the sick in the congregations across Watford—We leave them in your capable hands.
*Thank you for the Week of Prayer for christian Unity that unites your Church, your body across the world.  Be with those who live under persecution and oppression.
*Thank you for the work of your churches here in Watford and Garston through Christians Across Watford, and Churches Together.  Thank you for the work they do to help the homeless and needy
*Protect the elderly and the lonely, and help us to make a difference in their lives, that our light would go forth like a beacon.
*Thank you for the new babies—new life, for the gift of life, and for Eternal Life, our hope in you

David Silcox gives the SermonThe Message was given by David Silcox about our Christian Journey.  When we go on journeys they don’t always work out as you expect.  The men on the road to Amaeus had expected the Messiah to free them from Roman rule, yet their journey with Jesus ended with joy and excitement as Jesus taught them.  Jesus opened their eyes to understand things that they knew but did not comprehend.  Our Christian journey has ups and downs, rough and smooth, yet ends in glory, joy and Eternal Life.

The final Hymn was Where’er The Son after which the Closing Prayer was led by Sue Ann Henderson

Fellowship continued over Brunch in the church hall.

In the Young People’s Church, which took place during the Service, the subject of ‘living water’ was partly covered. The lesson started with the young people tasting tap water, filtered water, sparkling water and coconut water! The young people read and discussed John 7:38, ‘Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.’ They also read parts of the story of Jesus meeting a Samaritan lady at a well where Jesus discussed ‘living water’ with her (John chapter 4). Later the young people acted out part of this story using string puppets!
