2016-03-20 Len Maylin gives the SermonThe Message was given by Len Maylin, a guest speaker from the Great Baddow Congregation. He spoke on patience. We know that God is very patient with us, but are we patient with God? Do we wait upon him? When we have a problem we first take it to God in prayer, then explore all avenues of solution including sound advice, but then sometimes we need to leave it with God. 1-Realize that God does things in his own time, not ours. Clocks, calendars and time rule our lives, but God dwells in eternity and has a different view of time (Isaiah 57:15) 2 Peter 3:8 says one day is as a thousand years to God. He uses time to teach us such things as patience, empathy and faith, but is not willing that any should perish (verse 9). Moses had the finest education Egypt could offer, became a great general and was mighty in word and deed, yet God humbled him for 40 years looking after sheep before he led the Israelites out of Egypt. God kept David waiting 15 years from his anointing before he came to the throne as king. We walk by faith and not by sight. 2-Be Persistent in Prayer. Luke 18:1 says always pray and don’t lose heart. Ephesians 6:18 speaks of praying with all perseverance. Prayer is not optional, it is necessary and essential. 2 Corinthians 4:15 says all things are for your sakes—even the horrible things, so we don’t give up and lose heart. The outward man is perishing while the inward man is renewed day by day. Our ‘Light Affliction’ is from the perspective of eternity. As it says in Isaiah 55, God’s ways and thoughts are not ours, so Phil 4:7 be anxious for nothing and Psa 37:7 rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him and he will give you your hearts desires. Psa 27:14 wait on the Lord and be of good courage Lamentations 3:26 says “It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.”

The final Hymn was Onward Christian Soldiers after which the Closing Prayer was led by Geoff Sole

Fellowship continued over refreshments in the church hall.

Children’s Church took place during the Sermon time.
