2016-04-23 David 2David Silcox introduced the Offering saying when we talk about grace we are talking about concepts of giving—God’s love, mercy, forgiveness, redemption and salvation. Our country’s Queen is 90 this week and has spent her life in Service to this country. This is our chance to give as our response to what we have received from our church and from our God—cheerful and thankful giving.

During the Offering we enjoyed the Hymn Wonderful Grace as Offering Music

2016-04-23 David gives the Sermon

The Sermon was given by David Silcox. The celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most important event in the Christian Calendar. Luke 24 gives the account of the men on the road to Emaus after the crucifixion. Incidentally this was the first day of the week and would have been the day on which the wae sheaf was offered, which was a type of Christ offering himself to God. As we have taken the bread and wine at the Lord’s Supper Service, have we renewed and grown in our Christian relationship, getting to know him and his ways better? The men did not know Jesus when he was walking with them; they knew of him but when they broke bread in verse 31 they then knew him. Do we know Jesus, or just know about him?

The final Hymn was To God Be The Glory after which the Closing Prayer was led by Sueann Henderson

In the Watford Young People’s Church the young people learnt a little about GCI in Kenya. They looked at a map of the country and a diagram of where the Rift Valley is. They also looked at some Kenyan birds and animals. They looked at several pictures of three Kenyan GCI congregations: namely Nairobi, Kiganjo and Naivasha. The Naivasha congregation especially has many young people attending. The Watford young people enjoyed eating some Kenyan chocolate during the lesson.
