Hymn 3. I Am A New Creation

2016-04-29 Last UB David with the OffertoryAnnouncements were given by David Silcox:
*High Carton’s funeral was last Monday. David and Nancy flew to Belfast and David shared the Service with David Stirk.
*Andrew Silcox is in hospital for an operation on his foot which was broken in three places. David rang and spoke with him and Andrew sends his regards to everyone.

The Offertory was given by David Silcox who began by thanking the congregation very much on behalf of the Church for their generosity in their offerings. We do not live in a Christian world, as we have seen this week with the Hillsborough finding that there were lies and coverup during the investigations over 27 years. It is not a world that will last forever, thank God, and we have an opportunity to help with God’s message through our offerings.

During the Offering there was a Hymn: Because He Lives

2016-04-29 Last UB Phillip Halford asks blessing over the OfferingPhillip Halford asked a Blessing over the Offering and then moved into Intercessory Prayer, which included:
*We live in a world of great contrst and are here with friends in peace and safety while there are many who can’t meet and are in fear for their lives. We look forward to the time when those people who terrorize and persecute will have their eyes opened
*We see the Hilsborough trial still seeking justice. Jesus didn’t get justice, but died willingly for us so our sins could be forgiven
*We think of those who are ill in mind, body and spirit. There is only so much we can do and then we look to you. We bring before you today Bill & Irene going through a difficult time. Graham Mitchell and his family suffering greatly, and many others. Look after them, comfort them and help them copy. We know if it is your will you can heal and take away their trials

Hymn 4. I Serve A Risen Saviour
Hymn 5. Thine Is The Glory

2016-04-29 Last UB David gives the SermonThe Sermon was given by David Silcox. He began by telling the story of the man who bought a chain saw which he was told could cut down 50 trees a day but returned it saying he could only cut down 2 or 3 a day with it. The salesman pulled the cord and the chain saw burst into life, scaring the man who asked, “What’s that noise?!” This illustrates the problem with the Old Covenant—trying to keep God’s law with your own power is impossible, so God sent his Son and the New Covenant, which gives us the power to be saved—Christ in us, the hope of glory. Just as the blood of bulls and goats could not forgive sin (Hebrews 9:23-24), it needed the blood of Jesus, shed once for all (Hebrews 9:28), for the remission of sins (Matthew 26:27-28). And so the New Covenant was to be written on our hearts rather than the Old Covenant tablets of stone as Hebrews 8:10-13 quotes from Jeremiah 31:31-34.
2016-04-29 Last UB Service about to begin

The final Hymn was supposed to be The Lion of Judah, but unfortunately technology let us down and as the computer was frozen up, the Closing Prayer was led by Geoff Sole.

Fellowship continued over Refreshments-Buffet Lunch in the back of the church.
