Hymn 4. Great Is Thy Faithfulness
2016-04-30 Ricki Fowler's lessons from Israel trip

The Message was given by Richard Fowler who drew lessons from his visit to Israel. Stories that speak to us in our lives today as Christian with principles and truths that we can garner from seeing these historic places.
*First head 430 metres below sea level to the Dead Sea. Nearby is Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls illustrate the veracity of the Bible—God’s word preserved down through the centuries for us
*1 Samuel 24:1-2 The story of David & Saul in a cave at Engedi. Saul with 3000 men pursuing David with only 300 men. Yet in the cave David had opportunity to kill his enemy but had mercy and spared the King. He could have said ‘God delivered my enemy to me’ but sometimes there are greater principles that apply such as respect for those God has put in power. So (1)be careful how you apply principles and rightly divide the word of God! (2)We need to familiarize ourselves with Old Testament stories so we can see the application of biblical principles in life today and (3)Trust God in life’s situations. God took care of the problem of Saul’s enmity towards David in his own time (4) Faced with enmity and confrontation, don’t repay evil with evil!
*Hezekiah & Sennacherib teaches us that within the circle of our control we need to do what we can and outside of that circle, give it to God. Sennacherib sent messages saying why rely on God—he wont protect you as he didn’t protect the others. Today we have Richard Dawkin’s gook ‘The God Delusions’ telling people a similar thing. Yet the Bible matches up with historical records and Sennacherib did not take Jerusalem due not only to God’s protection, but to Hezekiah’s effort in bringing the waters to Jerusalem through ‘Hezekiah’s Tunnel’, a great feat of engineering and ingenuity and effort!
*North of Galilee is Bethsaida where the story in Mark 8:22 tells of a blind man, that Jesus could have healed without even seeing him, yet he touched his eyes twice before he was completely healed. We can learn from this that sometimes healing is a process and has phases. It is not always instantaneous. Our spiritual process, too, takes time and gives stages for learning. Sometimes stages of healing serve great purpose for the future.
*So in summary, all through the trip to Israel, everywhere and everything looks back, but the purpose is for the future.

The final Hymn was Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken after which the Closing Prayer was led by Chris Esom
