Hymn 4 – The Lord’s my Shepherd
Hymn 5 – Crown Him with many Crowns

2015-01-03 Mike Barlow preachingThe Sermon was given by Mike Barlow
God’s people thought that only they would be saved. God’s plan was first the Jews and then the Gentiles. We can read about this in Ephesians
1:3-14. 3:1-12. These verses tell us of a mystery that was not revealed until now. 1:9. 3:4-5 and 9. Romans 2:10-11. Christ wants to live in our hearts and make his home with us and the Gentiles. John 14:23. We will be rooted and grounded in love. Ephesians 3:16-17. We will then be able to understand the width, length, depth and height of the love of Christ.
18-21. It is hard for us to understand. It is only through God’s grace that we see his love for us. 1 Corinthians 2:9-16. God is love. 1 John 4:7-8. It is his nature. Grace and love go together, we can’t have one without the other. The mystery of Christ is in the cross. We can live guilt free, because our sins are forgiven. We should not get discouraged, but should grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:18.

Peter Beardsmore giving the opening prayerThe Final Hymn was I am a New Creation after which the Closing Prayer was given by Peter Beardsmore.

For the Young People’s Church, the young people went for their lesson right at the beginning of the service as they needed extra time for a special project. The subject was bread. The young people looked at the stories of manna in the wilderness and the story of Jesus turning five barley loaves and two fish into enough food for 5,000 men and many ladies and children. The young people read John 6:35 where ‘Jesus declared: “I am the bread of life” ’. The project was for each young person to make their own loaf of bread so they mixed flour, olive oil, yeast and water and about 1 and a half hours later each produced either a white round loaf or a plaited brown loaf. The congregation shared some of the hot bread with butter after the service, during Refreshments and Fellowship.
