2016-06-12 David speaking on PentecostThe Sermon was given by David Silcox. He began in Acts 1, where the Disciples asked Jesus when was he coming back, and he replied not to worry about that but that there was a job to be done and he was going to send the power to enable us to do that job. Pentecost was the coming of that power in the Holy Spirit. In Acts 2 we find 3 analogies: WIND-the Holy Spirit is like a wind of change, a new beginning FIRE-fire cleanses, refines and purges, making way for new life and growth. SPEECH-they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke God’s word in other languages, they began to do the work and be witnesses in all the world through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not come to found an organization or club, but a living body with a job to do. There is an expression, “I didn’t know he had it in him!” Well, with the Holy Spirit, we DO have it in us to do God’s Work. The Holy Spirit makes us “more than we can be!”

The final Hymn was There is a Redeemer after which the Closing Prayer was led by Phillip Halford.

There was no Young People’s Church during this Service.

Fellowship continued over a Buffet Lunch in the back of the hall.
