*Urgent prayers are needed for Rowland Gadsden and his family. Last Monday Rowland collapsed and fell in his kitchen and was taken to hospital. He injured both his shoulders and has had an operation on his right shoulder. He should be home soon but will not be able to drive for some months. He is self employed and this will make the next few weeks very difficult for him and for his family.
*Tomorrow in Verulamium Park St.Albans, there will be a Charity Race for Life Run. Caroline Gentil, her daughter, sister and niece are all taking part to raise money for cancer research. This is in memory of Caroline’s sister Margaret. If you would like to sponsor Rebecca then please contact them.
*Irene would like to thank everyone who helped with last week’s afternoon tea.
*Mary Glenister and Pauline Richardson and family wish to thank everyone for their cards and flowers following the death of their mother Vera Grierson. Everything was much appreciated.
*A reminder of the Northampton social on August 19th. The service begins at 2.30 with Rod Matthews as guest speaker. Food will be available to buy at 6p.m. and the social ends at 10p.m. Please see George for more details or contact Roger Clark.

Hymn 4 – The Servant King
Hymn 5 – Here is love

The Sermon was given by  Mr.Bergin on the Promises of God.
In times past when you made a promise or gave your word it was taken very seriously and was kept. In todays thinking, promises are made to be broken especially by governments.  God will not break his word. Psalm 89:34. Marriage vows are meant to be a covenant for life but many just don’t try enough to keep their promises. The Bible is full of promises, some are conditional as to the children of Israel about the promised land. Some are to individuals as with King David and Solomon. 1 Kings 8:22-24. To follow Christ does not mean that you will live an easy life. John 16:33. Some people miss-use scripture. The verse in 3 John 2 is meant to be taken as a greeting not a health and wealth gospel. Eternal physical life is not promised.  All people will die. Hebrews 9:27. James 5:14-15. Healing does happen but not all the time. God can heal us, but if he continued to heal us everytime then no-one would die. God supplies all of our needs, any more is a bonus. Philippians 4:13-19. We should be content with what we have. God will never leave or forsake us. Hebrews 13:5. Also read Joshua 1:5. God is with us through our trials and helps us. He gives us his grace, mercy and forgiveness. Temptation is not a sin. We are all tempted and God will help us to resist. Psalm 103:11. Many people feel so guilty when they sin but God forgives us when we repent and forgets our sins. We were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. Ephesians 1:13. It is like a deposit for our gift of eternal life. Then our healing will be accomplished. We have no need to worry about our future or when Christ will return. We must first seek the Kingdom of God. Matthew 6:33. John 14:1-2. As Christians we have the blessed assurance that Christ will return and we must wait patiently. Do not become a scoffer and give up. As humans we are bound by time, God is not. One day we shall all be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:51-58. We have hope and must stand on the promises of God.
The Final Hymn was Standing on the Promises after which the Closing Prayer was given by Geoff Sole.
