Hymn 3 – Faith of our Fathers

Intercessory Prayer was led by Sue Ann Henderson
*We thank you as your people that we can come here in freedom to worship you. We remember our brothers and sisters worldwide who cannot. Please protect and encourage them. We must all stand up and be counted. Please bless all the missionaries who take your gospel message out around the world.
*We are humbled by your unconditional love. You paid the penalty for all
of mankind’s sin. Thank you for all you have done for us.
*The world is in trouble. Please do not delay the return of your Son.
That is the answer to everything. We ask your help for the people who
suffered in the area devastated by the hurricanes. Today there will be
high tides in the west due to a storm. Please help all those affected.
*There are many refugees fleeing for safety in other countries. They just
want to live a decent life. Please let them see your love through those who help them.
*Please help Alice and Cyril. Remove the fear and worry from Cyril and heal Alice of her fall. Please also help their daughter.
*We miss Rowland and Janie at church. Please help Janie to find out what causes her problems and continue to help Rowland to improve.
*Please heal the problems that Peter Buckley faces with swollen legs and feet.  There are many others in this congregation with health problems. Please help them all.
*Please heal quickly Tom and Rod, so that they can swiftly return to serving their congregations.
*Please comfort the husbands and families of Donna and Carol. Give them hope for the future and know that our bodies in this life are just temporary.
*We ask you to bless and protect the whole team of Street Angels out tonight.
*Please help all here to understand and be used through your Holy Spirit to do your will for us.

Hymn 4 – O Thou the Shepherd of Israel Art
Hymn 5 – Lord For the Years

The Message was given by Irene Wilson on the Parable of the Vineyard
Some of the parables of Jesus are hard to understand. When we read this parable in Matthew 20:1-16, we feel it is unfair. Jesus himself said that a labourer is worthy of his wages. Luke 10:7. James 5:4-5. The cries of these workers reached God. Is there a contradiction in this parable? What is the point of this story? The workers in the vineyard worked a 12 hour day and earned a denarius which was a generous wage. Even though some worked for 12 hours and some only one, the landowner
paid each of them the same wage, one denarius. Why was this? It can’t be a lesson in business management. It is about God’s Kingdom. His ways and not ours. Isaiah 59:8-9. What if someone who has just come into the church, gets a higher honour than those who have been in for many years. Some churches have great growth, what about ours. Some have hoped for their healing for many years and then another person is healed before them. Are we the 12 hours or the one hour? It is all about God’s grace. There is nothing more important. We are the stewards of that grace. 1 Peter 4:10. Ephesians 3:2. It is an undeserved gift from God. We should not keep it to ourselves. All people will experience God’s grace one day. We have no rights because God restores equity. God expects us
to do right and to love our neighbour. We need God’s grace and we should show grace to others instead of judgement. That is what Christ has done for us.

The Final Hymn was Onward Christian Soldiers, after which the Closing Prayer was given by Robin Howard.

Refreshments and Fellowship followed the Service.
