Here is a report on the 2018 Paignton Festival/Convention:
Over 200 people enjoyed the Autumn Harvest Festival in Paignton over 23 September to 1 November.  The Festival was held at Beverley Bay , with meetings in the Oceans Hall. The weather was fantastic and the atmosphere was as warm as friends reunited and enjoyed a week of Services, Bible Studies and activities together.  We began with a Welcome Service on Sunday evening 23 September; Monday held a morning and afternoon Service. In the evening there was a Quiz run by Brian Templeman. Tuesday morning Service was followed by a Youth outing and a Ladies Tea in the Afternoon and a Film Evening showing Paddington Bear complete with popcorn provided by Amelia Mortimer. Wednesday morning Service preceeded a Restaurant trip to East in the West Restaurant in Paignton and a Bible Study led by Barry Robinson.  The evening entertainment was a short Talent Show followed by dancing.  Thursday was a free day for people to enjoy the various things in the area from the beach to a ride on the Steam Train before Geoff Sole’s Slide Show update on SEP and Adventure Camp 2018 which came before the Bible Study led by David Silcox. Friday’s Service, then the Family Outing to Paignton Zoo and a Coach Trip to Powderham Castle before the Hymn Sing in the evening led by Linda Halford and accompanied by David Brace, our Festival pianist.  He was joined by Deborah Glenister on her saxophone for the hymn sing and on Saturday & Sunday also by Anthony Dady on his flute.

Saturday morning the Communion Service was led by Gary Glenister with Deborah playing for hymns and Special Music.  The Special music on most days was by the Festival Choir ably led by Steve Robson. Saturday afternoon however, Michael Gibbs played a piano solo. There was another opportunity to give an offering on the Saturday afternoon as well as on the first and last days. Saturday evening we enjoyed a ‘Windrush Event’ sponsored by the Birmingham and London congregation which has a good number of members from the Caribbean and Africa.  This was a very enjoyable event that included a ‘taste’ of culture with wonderful dishes such as jerk chicken. There were displays on the walls and a video which showed photos and interviews of members over the years, and the evening finished off with lively dancing.

Sunday during the morning service, the Children’s Church, which had been meeting during most services led by Peter Beardsmore, sang a song for us and this was followed by a Blessing of the Children Service where Mr. Robin Jones & Mr. David Silcox laid hands on and prayed over Kaitlyn Barowski, daughter of Elizabeth and Jason. The afternoon held the Children’s Party as well as a youth activity.  The youth also met during most services for their own lessons and discussion group, led by Geoff and Jean Sole. Geoff & Jean also ran the Life Club that filled the evening slot on Sunday.

Monday was the last day with two Services and a Social Evening of games, dancing and fellowship. Members went home refreshed and inspired by the Theme of the Great Commission to let their lights shine to spread the gospel in every way that came their way.
