There was a Church Service on 26 April 2019

The Service was held in St. John’s, Radlett at 11am.

After welcoming everyone, HYMNS were led by Phillip Halford:
Hymn 1.  Morning Has Broken
Hymn 2.  The King Of Love My Shepherd Is
Hymn 3.  Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus

The OPENING PRAYER was given by Roger Fowler

ANNOUNCEMENTS were given by David Silcox, which included:
*Peter Buckley’s condition is very bad and he is being given ‘end of life’ care in his nursing home
*Mike Hustwait in hospital has worsened and he is very poorly so please keep him in your prayers
*There is a Service tomorrow at St. Peter’s as usual at 11am
*The first weekend in May is a Youth Weekend and there will be a special Service on Saturday 4th May with many visitors attending.  Please welcome our visitors and enjoy the Youth Service

David continued with the OFFERTORY, reading Acts 1 where Jesus instructed his disciples after his resurrection and before Pentecost, verse 7 not to worry about the time scale of His return, but, verse 8 to go into all the world as a witness and do the work.  The way we do the work today is by example and serving others as well as preaching and teaching.  Part of that responsibility is enabled by our offerings.

The OFFERING was taken up and then Winston Bothwell asked a BLESSING ON THE OFFERING thanking God for the many blessings He gives.  We are meeting here and hearing the happy voices of the children out playing.  With so much evil in the world that desperately needs your Word, we pray that this offering will be used to bring the Gospel and comfort to the world.

Winston then led the congregation in INTERCESSORY PRAYER, including:
*We are sobered by the news of Peter and Mike’s condition and we give thanks for them and their lives and service over the many years in this church. We ask that you will comfort and help them in their latter days and that you would guide the carers looking after them.
*There are many others who need your healing power including Winston’s daughter-in-law, Debbie, facing a life-changing operation this coming week.  We ask that it will be successful and we pray for her family as well as they face this trying time together.
*We remember round the world many persecuted Christians, especially those in Muslim countries at this time around Ramadan
*We think of those affected by the recent attacks in Sri Lanka on Churches and we pray for those injured and the families of those murdered.  Be with them in their hour of need.
*Help us to see the bigger picture.  You exist in eternity and we know that you have everything under control, according to your plan of salvation, part of which we celebrate here today.
*We pray for that tie when your peace ill cover the whole earth.

HYMN 4.  For The Beauty Of The Earth
HYMN 5.  As The Deer

The SERMON was given by Mike Barlow. In John 17:17 Jesus’ last recorded prayer, he asked his Father to sanctify his disciples in the truth. We are chosen for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth 2 Thessalonians 2:13. We are going to look at how we ought to walk and please God as his sanctified children in holiness 1 Thessalonians 4:1-4. Sanctification is a process. Romans 15:13-18 shows that joy and peace result in our lives as we live the sanctified life, also found in Ephesians 4:17-24, not conforming to the influences of the world but being transformed through the renewing of our minds in Christ Jesus and our Christian walk, but presenting ourselves as living sacrifices as in Romans 12:1. 1 Thessalonians 5:19-24 God will sanctify you wholly and blameless to the end.  Those in Christ Jesus walk after the Spirit and there is therefore no condemnation—we are set free from sin and death Romans 8:1-6. We are risen with Christ and seeking things above, putting off earthly things, devoted to the things of God to peace and love Colossians 3:1-17. This last week has been all about being purged from old sins and so continue with all diligence to live sanctified 11 Peter 1:2-8

The final HYMN was All Hail The Power after which the CLOSING PRAYER was led by Geoff Sole

Everyone enjoyed a BUFFET LUNCH together following the Service.
