Hymn 4 – For the Beauty of the Earth
Hymn 5 – Faith of our Fathers

The Sermon was given by Mike Barlow on Spiritual Growth. God’s love is the key to spiritual growth. A lawyer asked Jesus a question. “Which is the great commandment in the law?”. Matthew 22:35-36. This one question had two answers. You shall love your God and love your neighbour. Verses 37-40. We read in 1 John 2:7-8, that we have always had this old commandment but Jesus says we need to look at it in a different way. We must not just love our neighbour but also our enemies. Matthew 5:43-44. If we love others we abide in the light but if we hate others we walk in darkness. 1 John 2:9-11. Jesus came to enlighten the world. Truth is revealed by the Holy Spirit. John
14:16-17. We don’t want to stay in darkness. We are to obey his commandments, keep his word and love each other. Verses 3-6. Are we concerned about people, not just at church? Love should always be growing. In marriage our love should deepen in time. There should be less tension in our lives. If there is a dispute we should go to our brother alone. Verse 10. We should be filled with the fruits of the Spirit to the glory of God. Verse 11. Are we nearing the end of our time on earth? We should be sound minded and keep fervent in prayer and love for each other. 1 Peter 4:7-8. Christ covered the sins for all people and we must not turn our back on them even if we don’t approve of what they do. We must pray for them and be patient and forgiving. Verses 9-10. 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13. Ephesians 3:11-19. We must be rooted and grounded in love like a plant, then we can grow. God is way above our understanding of Him and the universe, but one day we will understand with his power within us.

The Final Hymn was All Glory Laud and Honour, after which the Closing Prayer was given by Irene Wilson.

Fellowship continued over Refreshments in the Church Hall.
