There was a Special Remembrance Service on 21 December

The Service was held in St. Peter’s as usual at 11am.

The Call to Worship was an Announcement contained in Zephaniah 3:14-17 read by Linda Halford

This was followed by the GCI Film Advent – Joy!

The Opening Prayer was given by Reg Newton

Announcements were given by Kevin Harris and included:
*Paul Knight shares the good news that no cancer was found in his tests
*Thought For The Week was read and will be in the notices

Another Reading was Isaiah 11:1-10 read by Linda Halford

Hymns were led by David Silcox:
Hymn 1.  Joy To The World
Hymn 2.  The first Nowell

The first Message was entitled The Promise Of His Coming and was brought by Irene Wilson. Prophecies are promises and it is God’s nature to keep his promises.  There are many prophecies/promises in the Old Testament which focus on Jesus Christ. We will look at two of these:
1-The Messiah will be born in Bethlehem—Micah 5:2. This was fulfilled in Matthew 2:12 where we read that the Magi came to worship and Herod inquired of the Priests and Scribes to find that prophecy foretold the Messiah was to come out of Bethlehem
2-The Messiah will come again—Acts 1:9-11 the angel told them as he goes, he will come again. Revelation 1:7 says every eye will see him boming, so Matthew 24:46 be expectant and ready, do not be afraid

Intercessory Prayer was offered by Sueann Henderson and included:
*We thank you so much that we are here to celebrate the coming of your son and our Saviour—where would we be if we did not have someone to intercede on our behalf and pay for our sins. We praise your name
*This world needs this knowledge and we ask that you would help, guide and give wisdom to the world leaders as they lead the nation with many difficult decisions
*Thank you for our Queen and her experience and wisdom. Be with Prince Phillip, who is ill, we ask that he will be able to be at Sandringham for Christmas with his family
*We pray for the firefighters in Australia as they struggle with the bush fires that are out of control
*Be with those affected by the ongoing flooding in this country
*Be with the lady held in Iran—encourage and help her at this terrible time
*Many in this congregation need your intervention, help and healing, in particular ron Hitchcock who has just gone into a nursing home. Help him have peace there
*Thank you for the improvement in health that Phillip Halford has and we ask you would completely heal him
*Be with Erica Tuxworth and her husband and also Ruth Yule—leaders in Churches in Watford, please intervene and heal them
*thank you for the good news that Paul Knight does not have cancer
*Be with the Street Angels tonight—give them wisdom and compassion as well as opportunities to share the good news of Jesus.  Please provide resources to fix the van which is an important resource to the team
*Help each of us to take this seasonal opportunity to share hope of the good news and reach out to others

Interessory Prayer was followed by Music for Contemplation and Private PrayerSilent Night, played by David Brace on the piano

Hymn 3.  While Shepherds Watched Their flocks By Night

Special Music was O Holy Night played on the flute by Catherine Wilson, accompanied on the piano by David Brace.

Hymn 4.  O Holy Night (accompanied by David Brace and Catherine Wilson on the flute)

The second Message was entitled Unto Us A Son Is Born and given by Mike Barlow. We need to have the attitude of Jesus Christ in Philippians 2:5, who humbled himself and was born of Mary (Luke 1:26-35) as a human being to live as our example and die as our Saviour to bring salvation Matthew 1:18-23 Immanuel, which is God with us.  He came to give hope, to bring peace and joy and through his love. A son is given=a gift!

The third Message was given by David Silcox and was entitled Born to Be King
Advent looks to the end—the second coming of Jesus as King of Kings. In John 18:35 Pilate asked ‘Are you a King?’ and Jesus replied ‘to this end I was born’. We heard ‘For Unto Us A Son Is Born’ from Handel’s Messiah and then David read Revelation 20 that He is faithful and true and in verse 16 King of kings and Lord of lords.

The final Hymn was Hark, The Herald Angels Sing, however, the first verse were the words and music originally written and then we sang the version everyone knows now! The Closing Prayer was led by Sue Ann Henderson

Fellowship continued over refreshments in the church hall.
