Hymn 4 – In Christ Alone
Hymn 5 – Majesty

The message was given by Kevin Harris. We read in Mark 10:17-31, the story of a very rich young Jewish man with great possessions. He asked Jesus what he had to do to inherit eternal life. Jesus was born under the law as was this man. Galations 4:4-5. Deuteronomy 4:13. The man had strictly kept all the law since a child. The Jews thought that how well they kept those laws would lead to salvation. They must be accountable as a people. They had many rituals they had to go through daily such as special hand washing. They just go through the motions without thinking. A ritualistic mindset. The law brings only knowledge of sin. Romans 3:20. Jesus said that we must be humble. Luke 18:14. We are saved not by our works but by faith and the grace of Christ. Jesus loved this man and asked him to sell all that he had, give the money to the poor and follow him. Mark 10:21. Jesus told him he would then have treasure in heaven. The young man went away very sad because he didn’t understand and was very wealthy. Verse 22. To accept Jesus we have to unload things we cling onto. It can become a conflict. The man saw something about Jesus but was so deep in laws and keeping rituals. We can’t enter eternal life while clinging to the past. Jesus will help us. Matthew 11:28-30. Grace does not mean that we don’t need to do anything any more, just do as we like. We need to understand that grace makes us want to do right. Salvation is through Christ alone. We can take everything to our Lord. There is enough grace to take care of all our sins through his love and compassion. Mark 10:21. It is a gift from God. Ephesians 2:8-9. Eternal life awaits all who accept Christ and follow him. Revelation 22:21.

The Final Hymn was The King of Love, after which the Closing Prayer was given by Sueann Henderson.

Fellowship continued over Refreshments in the Church Hall.
