PRAYER
We give thanks, Father in Heaven, that we have the technology and resources to gather virtually to express our gratitude and worship today. Bless our ‘gathering’ and guide us as we endeavour to have the mind of Christ Jesus.
AMEN

During crisis and disaster you sometimes find that ‘perfect fear casts out love’ as this cartoon indicates:

During crisis and disaster you find that people often turn to God.  Part of our role as Christians is to share the gospel, but not as this cartoon which says:  “Try Jesus. If you don’t like Him, the devil will always take you back!”

During crisis and disaster I am finding that people are rising to the challenge and working together to help and encourage and support one another, like the rainbows in windows and clapping Thursday evenings at 8pm for the NHS and key workers:

A few weeks ago Churches Together in England suggested that people put a candle in their windows at 7pm to represent the light of Christ shining in the darkness of coronavirus. We lit a candle in our window to join with Christians around the country.

During times of crisis and disaster, remember that the light of Christ shines in and through us. It is by this that all men know we are Jesus’ disciples—Christians—when we show love to one another and all around us.

HYMN NO. 1 – BY THIS SHALL ALL MEN KNOW – WCG hymnal 226

Loving one another is definitely not as this next cartoon says tongue-in-cheek:  How long is this social-distancing supposed to last?  The wife keeps trying to get back in the house!!

Things just seem to be topsy Turvey as with humans, not dogs, wearing the muzzles!

But Romans 8:28 assures us that “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Sometimes it may not seem to be for the good, as C S Lewis wrote: “Hardship often prepares an ordinary person for an extraordinary destiny.” But God’s way is always a ‘Better Idea’ as we hear in our Speaking of Life this week with Dr. Greg Williams entitled ‘A Better Idea

Are we getting frustrated because we want to go to Church and be able to do the ‘work’ we had planned, but because of this endemic we are stuck indoors? I think we are actually doing quite a good job finding new ways of spreading the gospel and shining our light using technology and volunteering. Our next hymn says ‘Let courage rise with danger’ and stand together against the foe whether it be coronavirus, fear, anxiety, despression, lonliness or anger.

HYMN NO. 2 – STAND UP, STAND UP FOR JESUS – WCG Hymnal 188

Hearing inspiring messages encourage and give hope as they remind us of God’s word that shines a light on our path. So we have our Live-Streamed SERMON ON-LINE AT:

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His word, what a glory HE sheds on OUR way! Our next hymn continues with,
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies but His smile quickly drives it away…
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear, can remain when we trust and obey

HYMN NO. 3 – TRUST AND OBEY – WCG Hymnal 18

CLOSING PRAYER
Trusting in you, God brings the joy and peace that pass all understanding. Please bring your word to our remembrance this week, Father in Heaven, and give us your heart to care for others as we have opportunity, whether in deed or in prayer.
AMEN
