WORSHIP FOR WATFORD ON 6 JUNE 2020
SING PRAISES AND REJOICE!

Lockdown is easing into more freedom—we are now allowed to meet in groups of six out of doors providing we stay 2 metres apart (and aren’t we thankful for the fantastic weather these last weeks?!), schools have opened for selected years, and people may go back to work! There have been many discussions about the technical implementation of these new freedoms and some people in exasperation find the humour in the situations:

Lockdown does make you take stock and see what things are really important. One analysis came up with this:

But for Christians, one thing has gone up dramatically in importance—Church, Praise and Worship, so come, and let us worship our God, sing praises and rejoice!

Have you noticed how often praising God and rejoicing are in the same song? They go together—if you know and praise God, you have cause to rejoice even though you may ‘long pain and sorrow bear’ as we sing in our next hymn:

Earth and heaven offer unbroken praise—field, forest, vale, mountain, meadow, flashing sea, chanting birds—so mortals join the happy chorus in the triumph song of life:

I leave you this week with the GLOBAL BLESSING SONG. There are different versions (one has people from many different churches all locked down at home but coming together on a zoom platform and this one can be watched at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9EK8dAXl6I)

But the one I have chosen for contemplation and blessing at the end of this week is the orchestral version, which is much more gentle and meditative (notice the socially distanced orchestra and choir!)
