Another week of Virtual Worship for our Watford Congregation. May it be a blessing of encouragement and hope for you despite any difficulties you may be experiencing or trials you may be enduring. We wish you all the peace and joy that come from communion with God and his people.

First a little report from our Virtual Adventure Camp! Each year our Denomination sponsors a camp for the under 13s over the August Bank Holiday weekend, which we call Adventure Camp. Unfortunately this had to be cancelled for this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The young people and their families were encouraged to have their own ‘camp’, whether in their back gardens or just a couple of hours of activities and send in photos to be included in the next Adventure Club Lesson (these lessons can be found on our Youth Ministry Page on this website: https://watford.wcg.org.uk/childrens-church/ ). We were also able to hold three Adventure Camp Zoom activities on Saturday 29 September, Sunday 30th and Monday 31st. Around 24 joined in the fun hosted by Heidi Steer. She began and closed each activity with a prayer and a hymn. The children shared what they had been doing over the holidays. There were lots of games and activities like guess the Adventure Camp attendee with a slideshow of photos which had parts of the picture blocked out; we played pictionary, had a memory game, and other enjoyable activities that made the young people look forward to next year even more!

After six month of home-schooling and holiday, children are back to school this week! Some might have begun to think this is how the classroom would look when they went back!

Thankfully for both pupils and parents, they have new teachers. However, thankfully, we all have the same teacher—the BEST Teacher, as we sing in our first hymn: ‘For even from my youth, O God, by Thee have I been taught’”

Through trials sore and great adversities, He will bring me from the depths and quicken me again, we sang. And now, O God, forsake me not when I am old and gray:
Hopefully we will be renewed in mind and body or we might have to continue with—

In Speaking of Life today, Dr. Joseph Tkach reminds us that we’re never too young—or old!

Samuel heard the Lord’s voice and said, ‘Hear I am.’ God uses the young and old, the wise and foolish, never too late to learn. Remembering our youth, perhaps the next slide will ‘ring a bell!’

Lord, teach me that I may know of the way where I should go: teach me now Thy will to do and lead me by Thy Spirit. Let’s sing this prayer to God in our next hymn:

The young are learning reading and writing, but some of us elderly are having to learn reading and writing again in a new youthful language, or is it 4,000 years later and we are back to the same language?!

We value and treasure a Holy Book of ancient words, long preserved for our walk in this world–the Bible! Our next hymn sings about those ancient Words:

They say that the young either do not get COVID-19 or have a light case of it generally. Why don’t they get it? Perhaps there is a clue here:

This reminds me of the humour that you expect from youth. They can be quite literal, like in the next slide:

That’s the sort of humour I expect from our youngest grandson. Now the middle grandson would be more like this:

It will be interesting to see what impact on the pandemic going back to school has. We pray that it will not cause a return to lockdown.

As we are all taught by God, we have a command from Him to share the teaching with the world as witnesses because we all have a wonderful story to tell to the nations that shall turn their hearts to the right. A story of love, truth and mercy, peace and light to turn their hearts to the Lord.
