This week, 17-24 January is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, a worldwide ecumenical event that happens once a year. The Churches Together in Garston and North Watford have traditionally joined this event with a different Church/Denomination in our area hosting one of the daily services. The brochure for this event gives an outline for each Service and for an Ecumenical Service to be held jointly on one of the  Sundays during the week. The Theme this year is ABIDING IN CHRIST and each of the daily Services are centred around an aspect of this theme.

This year, of course, because of the pandemic, Watford Churches Together have prepared a youtube video to be used instead of meeting in person. Below the Brochure picture you will find a list of these that you can click on and use for personal worship at any time. I might mention that each short daily video begins with the same pictures and hymn before offering the daily themed worship.

Grace Communion International in Watford has traditionally hosted the Service on the Saturday during the week and this has been followed by a brunch. This year anyone is welcome to join us for this Service 11am Saturday 23 January on this link Launch Meeting – Zoom but it is only spiritual food on offer this year! Our Service will follow our normal format with announcements, opening prayer, hymns, a short video message, intercessory prayer, a sermon and closing prayer. We have time for chat and fellowship following the service and this week at 1pm (using the same link) in keeping with the Week of Prayer, we will have a Prayer Meeting to which all are welcome to attend and participate.

The Ecumenical Celebration ~ Our joint service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be done via a pre-recorded video on YouTube. It is shaped by three sections, called ‘vigils’, which follow a pattern used by the community of Grandchamp. Each vigil follows the same pattern: readings from scripture; a sung response; a time of silence; and intercessions. Each vigil also has an action reflecting its theme. Each ends with the singing of Light of God (Lumière de Dieu), composed by a member of the community of Grandchamp. Come to this Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and enter into a place of community and blessing. Simply “be” in this place and be carried by the prayer and the reality that it is God, in Christ and through the Holy Spirit, who carries us and accompanies us. always. Here is the YouTube link for this service…
