While nations argue and bicker about solutions, human tragedy continues.

Who cannot be appalled and saddened by the story of how at least 27 migrants drowned while trying to cross the English Channel in a flimsy dinghy? Sadly it was not the first of such incidents and it won’t be the last. Behind it all, according to the news, are people-smugglers who profit from other people’s adversity. It’s just the tip of the iceberg when we consider the scope of modern slavery. Conservative estimates are that over 40 million people are currently victims of slavery in its many forms.

There is a biblical principle that says, “Do not mistreat or oppress a foreigner, for you were foreigners” once (Exodus 22:21). Sometimes, sadly, it seems that it is human nature to oppress those who are different from us.

So what can we do about it? The truth is, for real change to take place each of us needs a new heart and new mind, a change that we believe only the Spirit of Jesus can bring.

This is why, as we help others caught up in distress, we preach the Gospel above anything else. It is the Gospel of change.

Preach Jesus, change the world.

Warm regards,
